Jax Beer
Jax Beer was first created by the Jax Brewing Company in Jacksonville, Florida, which operated from 1913-1956. It was one of the last breweries built before the prohibition era. In 1913, the Jax Brewery was founded by German-born William Ostner who had moved from St. Louis to Jacksonville. Jax continued operations during prohibition by producing ice and non-alcoholic near beer. After the end of prohibition, brewing resumed under the leadership of Ostner's sons, J.F. and W.A. Ostner. The brewery is also credited with being the first to sell beer in a six pack, in 1945 or 1946. In 1956, the rights to Jax Beer were sold to the Jackson Brewing Company of New Orleans and the Jax brewery closed its doors. The company operated out of a building in the Durkeeville neighborhood on the north side of downtown Jacksonville, which still stands at 1429 W. 16th St. == References ==
